The Medici vase on the Acanthus leaf is supposed to show Ulisse, Agamemnon and Iphigenia. The vase was at the Villa Medici in Rome in 1598. First appeared in the inventory of the Medici collection of this century. An engraving by Stefano Della Bella, from 1656, shows the vase in the gardens of the villa drawn by a boy considered the heir of the Medici who later became the Grand Duke Cosme III. In the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, increased travel and exploration during the Napoleonic Wars and Archèologique discoveries, on sites such as Pompeii and Herculaneum in Italy, aroused renewed interest in the ancient decoration and classic. The vase continued to be referenced in the prints, used as model sources. The color of this vase is influenced by the Wedgwood Jaspers (porcelain) of classical subjects.
