This rather rare lighter differs from those used extensively during the wars of the Empire in that it has a pavilion quillon and a 36-strand monobloc mount. This type of mounting is specifically Dutch. 59 cm blade. Total length 71 cm. Blade marked 1836.
The Empire infantry saber, used during the Napoleonic period, was generally referred to as the lighter saber. It was designed for infantry use and was relatively short compared to other military sabers.
The sabre briquet had a straight, single-edged blade around 60 to 70 centimetres long, making it maneuverable for soldiers in close infantry ranks. The handle was often made of brass or steel and had a simple guard to protect the hand.
