This lighter is quite rare and differs from the one which served extensively during the wars of the empire by its flag quillon and its one-piece frame with 36 strands. This type of assembly is specifically Dutch.

59 cm blade. Total length of 71 cm. Blade marked 1836.

The infantry saber of the Empire, used during the Napoleonic period, was generally called the lighter saber. It was designed for use by infantry and was relatively short compared to other military sabers.

The lighter saber had a straight, single-edged blade approximately 60 to 70 centimeters in length, which made it maneuverable for soldiers in close ranks of infantry. The hilt was often made of brass or steel and had a simple guard to protect the hand.
