Sèvres glassmaking first appeared in 1750, in the first half of the 18th century, on the initiative of Madame de Pompadour.
The Marquise de Pompadour acquired a factory in Sèvres. In 1762, the glassworks moved to the château grounds of King Louis XV's favorite.
