It was on the initiative of Madame de Pompadour that the Sèvres glassworks appeared in 1750 during the first half of the 18th century.
The Marquise de Pompadour acquired a factory in Sèvres. In 1762, the glassworks moved to the grounds of the château owned by King Louis XV's favourite.
