The factory was thus the first in Europe once the process had been discovered by Johann Friedrich Bottger.
The Meissen factory was founded in 1710, and was housed in Abrechtburg Castle until it moved to its present location at the foot of the Meissen hill in 1865.
Meissen porcelain is one of the most renowned in the world.
